Implementing music at Fishtown Rec Center has been a rewarding experience.
The first week I was there, the kids were excited at the idea of having a musical part of their day. We started with simple songs that they were able to take part in. The kids were incredibly excited to sing familiar songs like “Baby Shark”.
This week, I attempted to teach them a few new songs, which was challenging because this group is very shy about singing. While it is hard to get them really involved, I can tell they really enjoy it after some encouragement. I have also been repeating the same songs, which will go a long way to helping them to feel comfortable enough to sing and participate more fully.
