Implementing music at Fishtown Rec Center has been a rewarding experience. The first week I was there, the kids were excited at the idea of having a musical part of there day. We did very simple songs that they were able to take part in, and when we sang baby shark, they were incredibly excited and fully engaged. This week, I attempted to teach them a few new songs, while trying to encourage them from being embarrassed to sing. This group is very shy when singing, and its a challenge to get them really involved and participating, but you can tell they really enjoy it and just need some encouragement. Starting this week I have been repeating the same songs, so they grow accustomed to repetition and memorization, which will go a long way to helping them to feel comfortable enough to sing and participate more fully.
