The first class at Samuels Rec Center on Wednesday learned how to do printmaking with different objects such as sliced limes and cut sponges. First, my assistant and I gave each kid the colors green, red, and yellow in paint to practice mixing colors. We discussed how different colors compliment each other, and it was fun to see the kids trying to make different shades such as avocado green. After they mixed up some colors we prompted them to use the sponges and limes to create a pattern on their papers. A lot of the kids were thinking ahead to what the final product would look like, and some kids were very specific with how their patterns laid out. There were a few kids who were more interested in mixing and making colors.
