  • Died: September 28, 1991 (Age 65)
  • From: Alton, Illinois
  • Occupation: Musician
  • Known For: Kind of Blue (1959) is often cited as the best selling jazz record of all time, going 5x platinum for shipments of over 5 million copies. 
  • Awards: Davis was nominated for 32 Grammy awards, but ultimately won 8, Davis was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014
  • Fun Fact: In early 1957, Davis considered retiring from music, as he had received offers to teach at Harvard University, and be a musical director at a record label. He ultimately continued with music, and collaborated with Gil Evans on 5 albums from 1957-1962.

Miles Davis was an American jazz trumpeter, best known for his 1959 album Kind of Blue. Davis revolutionized jazz music, bringing different styles and subgenres to light, such as modal jazz and hard bop.
