Reading is always more fun if you can sing the book! We had a lot of fun with our “Starry Night” lesson at Fishtown Recreation this semester. The students learned about Van Gogh’s famous painting and made their own interpretations.
For the music portion of the class, I did a classic sing-a-long with a twist. I read a picture book version of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” with extended verses that talked about different environments around the world, and what it’s like to gaze up at the stars from them. It was easy for the students to repeat the new verses and learn new information because they were so familiar with the melody of the song.
