Students entering 1st grade in the fall created a space collage! They were given precut astronaut shapes and designed their own space suits, making sure to draw a window in the helmet, space gloves, and boots! Some drew some pretty accurate details!
They were given their choice of 12×18 construction paper for their background. They glued blue circles, which we discussed was Earth’s water and then green shapes to represent the continents. Clouds were given out if they wanted to show the Earth’s atmosphere.
After gluing their astronaut outside of Earth, they used colored pencils to draw stars in space. They could also add yellow stars to their artwork. Some opted for one star and let it represent the sun. It became a counting lesson as the students were counting how many stars they could draw or glue on.
