Celebrate National Mountain Day on December 10th by learning about Dan Namigha, who was the great-great-grandson of Nampeyo (click here to learn more about Nampeyo). Dan Namingha is an Indigenous American painter and sculptor. He is part of the Hopi-Tewa member of the Hopi Tribe and lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Namigha’s paintings are inspired by the spirituality of his culture and usually depict the connections between the spiritual and physical world. He often uses an abstract style and bright colors to paint mountain ranges. Print out the handout below and color “South Butte” and “Tranquility” with bright colors. Then, paint your own abstract mountain range!
