Kindergarten students at Fishtown Recreational Center designed their own “Magic Carpets.” Terrific timing since many of these children have seen the new live-action Aladdin movie that recently hit theaters this summer. Whether you’re a fan of the original 1992 film (like me) or a recent viewer of the 2019 remake, everyone can appreciate, and wish they had, a magic carpet!
We began with a pre-made carpet shape, with fringe tassels and all. We discussed line and pattern and the children were asked to incorporate a pattern onto their carpets. They could fill in with markers and crayons. We even accordion folded some of them so they would lift up and “fly.” They had so much fun designing and coloring in their very own magic carpet.
