We definitely argue YES!
But you don’t have to take my word, take a look at this student work!
Chalk is arguably as old as dirt. However, despite the fact that its thousands of years old, chalk has owned it’s right as a medium for many fine artists, especially in California. Children are used to chalking outside, writing their names, playing hop-scotch, or ticktacktoe. Using chalk on paper was really a great time for the students.
Using chalk, stencils, and black construction paper, the students experimented with chalk. They explored different patterns and designs on the stencils. They also rubbed in the chalk to create a smooth, dense finish (something that does not work well with the usual crayons, and markers they are used to).
