I want to start out by introducing myself as one of the teachers with Art Sphere. My name is Diana and I am a local artist in Philadelphia. I have been working with this program since the winter and I absolutely love working with the kids. The summer programs at Fishtown Recreation Center and Towey both started today. We are focusing on storytelling and will be using printmaking as well as Jazz music in the future.
Today’s lesson started with illuminated manuscripts. The children used their initials to create works of art. We used colored pencils, markers, and construction paper to get the initial designs. We then used paint, glue, buttons, sticks, and feathers to decorate the pieces. Here are a few examples of finished projects:
