On February 9th, the kids learned about the migration of butterflies from the northern regions of North America to Southern California and the northern regions of Mexico. I asked them questions about the development of a butterfly; the kids impressed me by answering with complex words such as “chrysalis” and “cocoon”. I discussed with them the importance of pollination and what it means to “pollinate”. We then all pretended to be caterpillars wrapped up in cocoons, just to break out and fly around the room as new butterflies.
Using a lesson plan from Art Sphere Inc., the kids and I made coffee filter butterflies.
