Hawthorne Cultural
Recreation Center
The art classes and accompanying music focused on teaching the values of music and literacy. Students read excerpts from Philadelphian African American women writers and then wrote poems that were included in the mural we painted.
Students also listened to traditional jazz music and African American musicians who played a number of instruments including the words and notes to a popular uplifting ballet.
