Terms

Abdomen (noun) – The region of the body of a vertebrate between the thorax and the pelvis.

Corpus callosum (noun) – Abroad transverse nerve tract connecting the two cerebral hemispheres.

Epinephrine (noun) – A catecholamine secreted by the adrenal medulla in response to stress (trade name Adrenaline); stimulates autonomic nerve action.

Hormones (noun) – the secretion of an endocrine gland that is transmitted by the blood to the tissue on which it has a specific effect.

Metabolism (noun) – The organic processes (in a cell or organism) that are necessary for life.

Optic chiasm (noun) – The crossing of the optic nerves from the two eyes at the base of the brain.

Optic nerves (noun) – The cranial nerve that serves the retina

Progesterone (noun) – A steroid hormone (trade name Lipo-Lutin) produced in the ovary; prepares and maintains the uterus for pregnancy.

Testosterone (noun) – A potent androgenic hormone produced chiefly by the testes; responsible for the development of male secondary sex characteristics.

White blood cell (noun) – Leukocytes, or white blood cells, engulf and digest bacteria and fungi; an important part of the body’s defense system.
