This month, June, is known as Pride month! It is a celebration for people in the LGBTQIA+ community to be proud of who they are. The most common symbol of the community is the pride flag! The flag consists of six colors, and each color has a meaning.
Red for life
Orange for healing
Yellow for sunlight
Green for nature
Blue for serenity
Purple for spirit
The flag became widely used about fifty years ago in the 1970’s and the colors of the flag have changed a few times since then. In Philadelphia, there are also a black and brown stripe that represent diversity and inclusion.
