Today at the Minnow Program we worked on penguins made from paper hearts as part of their Valentine’s Day celebration!
I made some examples to show the kids that they could make heart animals at home, even if they don’t have construction paper, or if case they prefer coloring!
Because we wanted to make sure they had enough time to dance and play games for their party, I precut the paper elements of the penguins.
Step by step the kids glued a white heart to a black oval. Then they glued an orange heart to the center of the white heart, followed by eyes and orange heart feet.
We then discussed what penguin body parts they had made and what sort of habitat penguins live in.
The kids seemed to really enjoy this project, showing them to their parents when they came to pick them up. Next time we do this project we could have the kids choose what animals they want to make, since there are a myriad of animals that can be represented with simple heart shapes! This is a great project to continue at home, make sure to share with us if you give it a try!
