Celebrate National Almond Day on February 16th with this free handout! Color the almond flowers and learn about how they’ve grown!
Almonds grow on trees and are part of the rose family (along with peaches and apricots). Almonds are picked by a machine that shakes them off the trees. Then, they lay on the ground for 5-10 days when a sweeper comes and picks them up. Bees are an essential part of almond growth. Farmers rent them to pollinate their orchards. Without bees pollinating the flowers, the almonds wouldn’t grow. Remember to be kind to honey bees; they are an essential part of the ecosystem and only sting if provoked.
