MaVynee Betsh was an advocate for the environment and black history. Originally born into wealth, she gave away her whole fortune to environmental causes. Due to her consistent advocacy for the neighborhood, she grew up in, American Beach, Florida, she was christened “the Beach Lady.” She dedicated her life to preserving American Beach (a historically African American neighborhood) and has had two documentaries about her and the town.
