The preschoolers from Cione Rec Center and Fishtown Rec Center turned into pirates this past week. They searched for the hidden treasure and then made treasure maps of their own.
I made a map of the classroom, incorporating different obstacles they had to pass in order to find the treasure. Once they found the hidden treasure, they tried their hands at making a map. I explained to them that their maps needed at least three things: a compass rose letting them know which direction to go, a dotted line to follow, and an X marks the spot for the treasure. They were so excited to not only find the pirate’s booty, but to also create their own treasure maps.
