Week 4 at Fishtown Rec Center, my 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students pretended it was Christmas in July! Since it’s almost July 25th, thus marking 5 months until Santa Claus comes to visit, we decorated paper gingerbread people but with a warm, summer setting. So many creative ideas were made! They drew beach scenes and strung lights to palm trees. Some of the gingerbread people had hula skirts while others donned snow boots and a scarf. Some of the students had their gingerbread people sitting on the beach, by folding and gluing them down to ‘sit up.’ There were even a few presents left under the Christmas palm tree!
