Tiger Handout

Tigers are the largest of the Asian big cats, which include leopards and Asiatic lions. There currently an estimated 3,900 tigers left in the world and although the population has been back on the rise after declining for a century, they are still dangerously close to extinction due to habitat loss and poaching.

There are two subspecies of tigers: the Continental tiger and the Sunda tiger. Continental tigers make up most of the remaining population and can be found all across Asia. The Sunda tigers are the only remaining island tigers and have less than 400 left on the island of Sumatra.
