List what affects you most, what you care about, what you think you can change and want to take on first

Anyone can make a change. Finding what you want to change is completely up to you and how you feel. People like MLK and Gandhi both had one thing in common: They were passionate about something and worked hard so that they could make change. However, this did not happen, just because they randomly thought of something to change. This happened because they were being affected by the world around them. So, they took initiative and pushed for change in the world they lived in.

Finding what affects you the most

To figure out what affects you, you could make a list of issues that you think you could change, but make sure you are passionate about it. Another thing you can do is find someone you care about. This could be a family member or a friend and ask them what issues are affecting them. If you are passionate about helping others, this may be the best way to find an issue you think you can change!

How to make a change and get involved?

This is the hardest part because there isn’t a set-instone answer. This step is something you have to think about. If it is something “small”, for example, if the issue you wanted to fix is trash on your street. This issue is something you can take initiative on immediately. However, let’s say you want to battle against climate change like Greta Thunberg. This is where you should think about joining an environmental activism group, or attend a presentation, or even join rally. You should aim to find a group that believes in what you believe so that you don’t feel alone and you don’t get discouraged. This will also allow you to get familiar with more issues and learn how to fight against climate change.

Here is a list of ways you can get involved:

  • Go to local meetings
  • Join a local group
  • Volunteer
  • Donate
  • Attend fairs and events
  • Share things online (social media)

Speak your mind!

Your ideas are important, make sure you voice them! If you have thought of ways to fix the issue you are focused on, tell people, share your ideas with as many people as you can. The reason people like Greta, MLK, and Gandhi succeeded is because they weren’t scared of speaking their minds. If you are truly passionate about what you want to change, then share that passion with the world.

Dealing with negativity

Not everyone is going to agree with you, and that’s okay! Keep a leveled head and respect other people’s ideas. Other people may not believe in what you believe in, all you can do is share your knowledge with people who are willing to listen. Do not get discouraged when dealing with negativity, it’s a common thing that everyone deals with, and as long as you believe in what you are saying and doing then continue to work hard to make that change!
