The Despising King

Lesson: The moral of this story is to listen to the advice and wisdom of those around you. The new king did not listen and was humiliated. It is important to learn to listen to people you trust and who want the best for you. Doing what seems right in your own eyes, like the king, may not always be what is best for you.

Your Destination: To practice listening, you are going to listen to a teacher/parent/friend, read off the instructions of the handout. You have to follow it to the best of your ability to create the scene they are reading.

Travel Kit: White paper, listening handout, colored pencils/markers

On the Path

Step 1: Listen closely as your teacher or someone else reads the handout step-by-step

Step 2: Draw each part of the picture as they are reading it. It is up to you to interpret the size and shapes you are making and where you are placing them based on the instruction

Step 3: When you have finished the drawing, you can color and decorate how you want. Share with the class what you thought you were drawing along the way. Did it turn out like the handout?

Learn New Vocabulary: Advice, ritual, coronation, fine, council

Discussion Questions: What was the moral of the story to you? How can you apply this story to handling money? What could be the consequences of not listening to parents or teachers who want the best for you?
