Art Sphere Inc. launched its Lunchtime Literacy Through Art and Music classes on Tuesday October 1st at the Fishtown Community Library. Every Tuesday we will be making art and music with families to help the youth communicate their thoughts, feelings and ideas about their favorite books.
For our first class we read, My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss. This story describes each day with a particular color and then associates that color with a specific emotion. In response to the book, children were given a coloring page with an outline of a figure. We asked them to tell us how the colors they were using made them feel.
Children were able to make art work with their guardians right next to them. We encouraged adults to also join in coloring their own pages. We loved guiding this group through new artistic experiences.
