Function:
The vagina is an elastic, muscular tube located in the pelvis between the bladder and rectum. This tube extends from the cervix to the vulva (the outer part of a woman’s genitals), providing a passageway for childbirth and receiving the penis and sperm during intercourse.
The vagina has 3 main functions:
provides a passageway for blood and mucosal tissue from the uterus during a woman’s monthly period.
receives the penis during sexual intercourse and holds the sperm until they pass into the uterus.
provides a passageway for childbirth.
Fun Fact:
Did you know vaginas do tear during childbirth? But this is normal.
