Spinal Cord

Electric Highway

Function:

The spinal cord is a bundle of nerve cells and fibers wrapped together that stretches from your brain to your lower back. The cord is protected by a bone tunnel made up of the vertebrae of your spine which are separated by membranes called discs. Your brain sends electrical signals through the spinal cord, giving instructions to the legs, arms, and other areas of your body.

Fun Fact:

Vehicle accidents are the leading cause of injuries to the spinal cord and back pain.
