Cardiac Muscles

Heart Muscles

Function:

Did you know your heart is made of muscle? Cardiac muscle tissue works to keep your heart pumping through involuntary movements. This is one key difference from the skeletal muscles tissue, which you can control. Your heart has its own pacemaker cell that controls the contractions of your heart. These contractions are the lub-dub sounds of your heart beating. In certain situations, the nervous system will send signals to pacemaker cells to tell them speed up or slow down your heart rate.

Fun Fact:

Cardiac muscle is only found in the heart and makes up the bulk of the heart’s mass.
