Tonsils

Cleaning The Bacteria

Function:

When you open your mouth wide, you might see two round lumps in the back of your throat. Those are your tonsils! They help you by trapping any pathogens, like bacteria or viruses, that enter through your nose and mouth and cause disease. Your tonsils contain immune cells that produce antibodies which kill these pathogens before they can spread to the rest of your body.

Fun Fact:

If the tonsils grow too large or become prone to frequent infection, they may need to be surgically removed.
