  • Contribution/Impact: A Peruvian painter who paints, especially with oil, people of color, and the diaspora of Latino race and culture and its place within American culture. His portraits include LGBTQ+ and racial issues as well.
  • Occupation: Painter
  • Known For: His paintings, Verano (2014)
  • Awards: Publications in Huffington post and Poets and artists magazine, as well as multiple scholarships and residencies
  • Interesting Facts: His work is influenced by academic training and roots in French atelier.

Santiago is Latino visual artist from Philadelphia. He paints people of color and works in themes or race and queerness, as well as depicting the Diaspora of Latino culture. He feels it is important to show populations that aren’t typically represented in modern portraiture. He has attended multiple residency’s and exhibitions in New York and Philadelphia. He attended a residency in Ecuador, where he painted figures in silhouettes with clothes that represented one gender, and a body that sometimes represented another. He says it represents what its like to be queer and not fitting into societal expectations.
