  • Contribution/Impact: Rivers Solomon is known for their sharp, yet grounded writing. Their second book, The Deep, is based on a song commissioned for a This American Life episode on Afrofuturism. The song “The Deep” itself is an homage to Acid/Techno duo Drexciya whose music is set in a utopian underwater civilization founded by African women thrown overboard slave ships.

Rivers Solomon is an author of speculative and literary fiction whose debut novel was published in 2017. Fae hold a degree in comparative studies in race and ethnicity from Stanford University and hold an MFA in fiction writing from the Michener Center for Writers. Fae grew up in California, Indiana, Texas, and New York. Fae now lives in Cambridge, England. Fae describes faeself as many things including gendermalcontent, agender, dyke, refugee of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, and “Anarchic. Nonhuman. Kin(dred) w/ beasts. Fractured, fractious, incoherent. Many.”
