Watercolor Resist Elephants

Group 1 – Towey Playground
I showed the group step-by-step how to draw an Indian elephant. We looked at a few images of painted Indian elephants. Then they were encouraged to outline their elephants with gray or black crayon to create a resist. Last, we painted with watercolors. We discussed how to make gray (since we didn’t have white) and learned that we could add lots of water + a little bit of black to create gray. One child creatively painted a sunset and turned his elephant into a woolly mammoth!! The group shared lots of creative ideas together and learned from one another how to ‘mix’ watercolors in a separate palette or plastic plate.
