Students Design New Duck Species

Ducks of every style, color and pattern were made with the students at Taggart Elementary. The lesson focused on the wide variety of ducks around the world and their unique plumage. This lesson prepared the students for their trip to a nearby wildlife refuge where they will see an array of birds.

We had some bird wings that the students could touch. The class examined the differences in the layers of feathers in a single wing. The primary feathers were larger and more firm, while the down feathers were soft and small. Students noted the different patterns and colors in the wings as well. Then, they jumped right into designing their own duck species.

Pre-K glued their ducklings swimming in their natural habitat.

This student gave his duck a proper suitcase for travel.

A fantastic assortment of colorful ducks made by kindergartners and first graders.
