Masked for Mardi Gras

We pulled out all of the stop at Fishtown Recreation Center to create Mardi Gras masks. The students transformed a simple white mast into an artist endeavor complete with glitter, feathers, and gems.

They first started with only purple, yellow, and green markers. While some students wanted different colors, I explained to them that these are the traditional colors of Mardi Gras. I then explained to them that it was important that they make their masks wild, and flashy because Mardi Gras is a big celebration.

To finish off the masks, we glued down popsicle sticks for handles. All of the students were so excited to wear their masks and to pretend they were in New Orleans, LA celebrating.
