Listening & Dancing

Who doesn’t love to dance? Not only is it a joyful and fun activity, but it’s also a great way to learn about music! I love showing my students at Fishtown Recreation new music from all over the world. I usually try to give them a little background on where the music comes from, and I ALWAYS encourage them to dance!

I ask them to listen deeply to the music and try to react with their bodies. This is a great mechanism for self expression, especially for students who may have trouble with language or speech.

In addition to being playful and fun, dancing is important for child development. Through dance, children develop spatial awareness, become less clumsy and pay more attention to others sharing their space.
