What is a Facebook page?

To understand what a Facebook page is, you must differentiate it from the platform’s different posting methods. Facebook allows its users to make personal profiles, ‘groups,’ and ‘pages.’ These words may seem interchangeable, but they all represent very different social media functions.

A personal profile on Facebook acts as a place to share details about your life! You can connect to family and friends and see aspects of their lives they chose to share on social media. Everything posted on your account is your choice, from pictures to personal information.

A Facebook group is a collection of personal profiles that share the same interest. Multiple accounts can post in this forum about the specific topic the group is centered around, often a common interest like sports or music. This forum is similar to a profile where all the posts usually are very causal but about a particular topic.

The Facebook page is the most different out of the three types. It is typically used as a professional tool to promote business, organizations, or events.. The posts on Facebook pages are not causal and always about the focus of the page.

Why are Facebook pages important?

Facebook pages are critical to reaching a wider audience online. Facebook is one of the biggest social media platforms today, with about 2.8 million active users in 2020, according to Statista.com. A popular page can bring awareness to the focus of the page.

This awareness can lead to support or more extensive media buzz! An example of this is the company’ Blossom,’ which is best known for short DIY craft videos. They were a small business until they spread their content onto social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

People enjoyed the content on their Facebook page so much it created a large following. This attention not only made the brand’s videos viral but opened opportunities for them elsewhere. News outlets covered the brand’s rising popularity, which only widened their audience more, repeating the cycle.

This can happen to any Facebook page, not only businesses. Pages dedicated to causes, events, or fundraisers also have been known to receive similar attention. The ‘GoFundMe’ page, listed as a cause on Facebook, has 1,789,800 followers who like and engage with the page’s fundraisers.

Who uses Facebook pages?

The age group that uses Facebook the most are adults, specifically those in their late twenties to thirties. They grew up using Facebook and have stayed on the platform. Older adults, ages forty through sixty, are also a large portion of users because it is an easy way to keep in touch with old friends and family.

This is vital information to know about any platform, to help you better understand and reach your audience. If you are interested in learning more about Facebooks demographics or why it is essential to know who uses them, you can find them here at Sprout Social demographics or The Importance of a Target Audience.
