Fun Facts About Father’s Day
- The first Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington, in 1910, organized by Sonora Smart Dodd, who wanted to honor her father, a Civil War veteran and single parent.
- It wasn’t until 1972 that Father’s Day became an official U.S. holiday, signed into law by President Richard Nixon.
- Many countries celebrate Father’s Day, but not all on the same day—some observe it in March, September, or even November!
- Popular gifts include cards, tools, sports gear, and handmade crafts—like the ones your students can make!
