Mural Painting, Card Making, and Clean Up For MLK Day

On January 19, 2015 Art Sphere Inc. volunteers gathered at the Fishtown Rec. Center for a day of citizen volunteer service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Individuals and groups of volunteers from various businesses and schools around the Philadelphia area came together to paint murals, make cards for veterans, and clean the local community rec. center.

To begin with, everyone was asked to sign in.

Using donated paints, volunteers painted fanciful fish scenes to maintain a cheerful atmosphere at the Fishtown Rec. Center.

Inside the Rec. Center, Art Sphere Inc. teachers and volunteers helped direct the volunteer groups in painting a large parachute cloth with fish native to Pennsylvania. This parachute cloth will later be installed as a large educational mural. There are so many local fish to learn about!

Stencils were used for another mural project.

Additionally, volunteers worked to create hand-made cards for veterans and seniors.

It was such an amazing experience to be able to witness such a large gathering of people, coming together to support their community and the arts, cultivate compassion. and spread joy. Thank you so much to everyone who came and spent the morning and afternoon with us. We hope you will all join us for mural and community clean up events in the near future! If you are looking for a chance to do good deeds, and to meet a diverse group of compassionate people, you are in the right place!
